One World, One Love volunteers engage in a variety of activities to welcome and support refugees resettling in New Jersey. We’d love for you to join us

Before a new refugee family moves into an apartment, we make it a home. We clean, hang curtains, make the beds, and stock the kitchen and bath with household essentials. Another nonprofit provides all of the furniture, which we help assemble. Most setups happen on weekdays in Union/Essex/Hudson counties with only a few days’ notice. If this type of volunteering appeals to you, please email your name, cell and hometown to basicneeds@oneworldonelovenj.org and you’ll be added to our email blasts about upcoming setups. * Please note: All set-up volunteers must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask at all times inside the apartment.

ESL Tutoring

We run a robust online ESL tutoring program to support newcomers acquire critical language skills. No teaching or ESL experience is necessary; we have an extensive library of resources. Tutors meet online with their students once a week, and we ask for a minimum 8-week commitment. We tutor mostly adults, who range from complete beginners to intermediate/advanced. If this interests you, please email us at leap@oneworldonelovenj.org for more information.

Through a partnership with The Moms Helping Moms Foundation, we deliver diapers and other baby items monthly to families with young children. If you’d like to help with the Babies program, please email babies@oneworldonelovenj.org

Bicycle Distributions

Our Bicycles program repairs and distributes donated bicycles to adults and children who need transportation to reach school, work and appointments. We are looking for volunteers with experience repairing bikes and who can deliver bikes to families. We also accept gently-used bikes. Please email  bikes@oneworldonelovenj.org with a photo of the bike or to get involved as a volunteer.

Family Friends

Volunteers in our Family Friends program extend a welcoming hand to our new neighbors, checking in to see if they need clothes, showing them around their new neighborhood, teaching them how to use public transit, and more. To get involved, please email hello@oneworldonelovenj.org.

In-Kind Donations

We gladly accept donations of gently-used household items for apartment setups. Donations can be delivered to 48 Elmwood Ave in Chatham anytime. We can not take furniture but suggest that you contact our partner, The Warehouse NJ (LINK TO WWW.THEWAREHOUSENJ.ORG), which accepts donations and provides all of the furniture for our setups. We also appreciate the support of community groups and faith-based organizations that have run collection drives for us. If you’re interested in doing so, please email basicneeds@oneworldonelovenj.org to coordinate.

Special Events

Who doesn’t love a party? With pandemic restrictions easing, we anticipate hosting 3 or 4 in-person events this year, such as a picnic at a local park, beach outing, or back-to-school event. A small committee will be developing plans in the coming months. To join the fun, email hello@oneworldonelovenj.org

Do you have an idea for other activities? Are you a professional – a banker, an HR recruiter, an IT specialist, Bookkeeper, etc. – who would like to use your talents to support resettled families? Do you have connections with community organizations or cultural groups that might want to partner with us on a program or event? We’re all ears!  Email us at hello@oneworldonelovenj.org
